Two stories, and what I enjoyed about writing them (September 1, 2026)
There’s a particular pleasure in writing something for one person. You know exactly who’s reading it, you know what they want out of it, and everything you put on the page is aimed at them.
I’ve done that twice recently. Which I’ve just added to my content page.
“The Keynote for the Good Girl” came first. A woman stepping outside of who everyone assumes she is, told slowly and entirely from inside her own head. The fun of that one was the restraint. Getting her to the point where she surprises herself, and taking long enough over it that the reader feels her decide.
Then “Room 53”. A man having his first experience with another man. He isn’t ashamed and he isn’t confused about who he is. His life just makes it complicated, so he arranges something anonymous in a hotel room ninety minutes from home. No names, no faces, a silk mask hanging on the door handle. Writing a whole encounter in the dark, where every touch arrives without warning, was the best few hours I’ve spent at a keyboard in a long time.
What I enjoy in both is the same thing I enjoy in person. Paying attention. Working out what somebody actually wants underneath what they’ve said, then taking my time getting them there.
These blogs are where I’ll put new material as I write it, and where I’ll show what I can do with an idea when someone hands me one.
